artist toolkit 2d: perspective grids and environments

2 and 3 Point Perspective Grids

This week in class, we discussed perspective grids - how to make them, how they can be used and more. We have already previously discussed this, so it was more of a refresher lesson. We recapped how to create 2 and 3 point perspective grids, as well as did some quick practices drawing different cubes in a 3D space just to familiarise ourselves with the topic again.

We created a 3 point perspective grind at a high up angle and also one at a lower down angle to understand how they work both ways and how the perspective isd distorted and warped depending on whereabouts the vanishing points are placed.

Notes from class:
- Horizon line: the line at the back of an image where the horizon/drawing will fade into. the furthest point backwards in a perspective drawing and used to help map perspectives out

- Vanishing points: Locations that usually sit on the horizon line (but can be placed elsewhere too) in 2 and 3 point perspective. help map out the perspective. can add multiple vanishing points for more dynamic and interesting perspectives such as 5 point

Application / Homework Task

For our homework, we were tasked with creating an environment in either a 2 or 3 point perspective space out of a list of environment themes. I decided to go with a fantasy tavern, and created the interior of it using digital software. This was actually a really fun task, and i really enjoyed creating a quick sketch of this environment. A few items within the scene are also offset on different perspectives from different angles too, to really practice how different things in environment interact with one another. I think i will continue to practice drawing environments of different types of grids like this, as they prove as a fun warm-up task and also great practice.
