Week 3: Creating Perspective Grids in Photoshop
This week in class, we applied the skills we learnt about perspective grids last week into photoshop and other digital software. We discusses how to create grids quickly and efficiently , how to use them and then practiced applying them in different ways.
2 and 3 Point Perspective Grids
The technique is very simple, firstly set up a canvas and create a larger area around the outside of the main canvas to act as the empty space where you can set up your vanishing points. Draw a line across the centre (or wherever you like) to act as the horizon line. From there, you can create 2 points either side with photoshops built in tools and change the amount of line that's come out from the centre. Do this on both sides in different colours and you are left with something like shown below. Ta da, now you have a 2 point perspective grid! To turn it into a 3 point grid, simply add another vanishing point shape either above or below your canvas depending on if you want an above angle or below angle.Examples of Usage
Below, are some examples of how these grids can be used. a drew a simple sofa and pair of glasses to demonstrate how these grids can be used to draw different items and really help aid in drawing things from many different types of perspective.
we also discusses and practiced how to create objects an equidistance from one another using perspective grids. We went over this in our previous session, so it was pretty easy to remember how to do this just on a different software. this technique can be really useful for things like drawing lampposts on a street for example.
