Figure Drawing and Anatomy Practice
This week in class, we practiced drawing different poses and figures following a selection of different references. We were tasked with selecting a complex/action pose we found from either a movie or a piece of media and practicing to replicate this.
To help us practice, we used a technique where we quickly trace the simple pose and anatomy of a figure/pose. This is a quick and efficient way of understanding a pose, and can be done by simply blocking out each body part with simple shapes to help you get a basic understanding of the pose. Afterwards, we moved the traced sketch so it was separate, and began to draw a second sketch using the pose we traced as our reference. This not only allows you to get a better understanding of the anatomy, but it also really helps to improve the way you understand and can draw different poses and anatomy.
Below, are a few of the practice poses i did in class. I sketched a selection of different poses to allow myself to practice a variety of skills.
A collage of the different poses I practiced in class.
the first pose i practiced. I chose an action-like pose of a man jumping from a Louis Vuitton advert i found online. I choose the pose as i felt like it would be a good warm-up pose and also provided a bit of a challenge. The pose was slightly complex but I think it turned out quite well.
The second pose i chose was an action pose of someone on a motorbike. I really wanted to practice a pose from a different perspective and I also really wanted to practice drawing a vehicle too, So i decided on this pose.
A pose of two characters interacting. Originally, i was going to go with a fighting or action pose for these two characters. But i decided on doing something a bit simpler instead, as i find drawing poses where characters interact and especially are touching each other quite difficult. I think that when i draw poses like these they sometimes look stiff and unnatural, so this was a bit of challenge for me to try and not get them to look stiff. Overall, i think it turned out alright.

For my final pose sketch, I found this very unique pose of a man playing snooker but I actually really liked it. I thought it would be a fun challenge to draw a figure interacting with objects to practice, so i ended up going with this pose. I think this one is my favourite i drew in this session.
