This week, we covered a few more of the basic tools that can be used in ZBrush. these tools are really useful in helping to build and create models.

Transpose

to Transpose a model in ZBrush, you can move around your mesh using the Transpose Line tool or the Gizmo manipulator. This tool allows you to move, rotate, and resize your model to your liking. both of these tools offer very similar features, and can be swapped between by pressing the Y key.

A shortcut to use the Gizmo manipulator is by pressing either W, E or R. to stop using you press Q. This allows you to quickly filter through the different reshaping modes and to alter your model quickly and with ease.

Mask

Masking is a tool that allows you to select certain areas of a model, while protecting other areas of the model.

To create a mask, press the CTRL key and begin to paint this area you want to mask. this will protect this certain area from being effected or distorted while you model other areas around it. to unmask an area, you can hold CTRL+ALT.

Mesh Visibility

When creating a model, usually things will be separated into different sections. For example, if you were modelling a person, things like the eyeballs or insides of the mouth will be modelled separately. If you want to edit a certain part of the model and hide the rest so it doesn't get in the way or overlap, you can use a tool called mesh visibility.

To hide sections of the mesh, you can press Shift+Ctrl. To subtract visibility, you can hold Shift+Ctrl+Alt. To reveal your entire model again when you are finished, you can hold Ctrl+Shift and press in the empty space (not on your model.)
