Week 4: Deformation, Polygroups and Clip Brushes

- Deformation Tool

- Polygroups

══════════════════════════════════════════════════════

This week in class, we discussed more useful tools in ZBrush. These tools consist of the Deformation Menu, Polygroups and Clip Brushes.

Deformation

The deformation tool can be accessed by pressing tools . deformation on the top menu. This tool has many options and allows you to deform and shape your model in many different ways.  Examples of how these can be used could be to make something more round with the inflate tool, to create perspective with the perspective tool or create spirals with the bend and skew tools.

Polygroups

The Polygroups tool is a tool that allows you to organise your mesh within a model. It helps to map out different areas on a model. To access the tool, Press Shift and F and then create a mask using CTRL and either dragging or drawing the area you'd like to select. Then, Press Shift and W to create a new Polygroups area.
An example of this is shown below, Where the model is sectioned into different Polygroups surrounding different limbs and features of the body such as legs, arm etc. This tool can be really useful in organising models, and can be used with the select and mask tools to to allow really precise and detailed modelling.
