Assigning Roles, Research and Concept Sketches
This blog includes:
- Research for Game
- Planning, assigning tasks
- Discussing Formative
- Concept Arts
this week in class, we began to enter the planning phase of different assets we will need for our project and organising who can take on what tasks. We made a list of all the assets and different things we would need concept art for, and distributed them between us all. Our plan was to begin researching each task individually, gathering inspiration and beginning to create some concept sketches and generating ideas. I was tasked with the non-hostile creatures (such as jellyfish, starfish, seahorses and sea angels) which would be used for background decoration, Nottingham landmarks and also the repair kits (items). We also finally settled on a name for our game: Sub signal.
As a group, we all decided to begin to research and start concepting for our designated tasks. Our 2D Leader, Sam, told us which tasks we should begin to prioritise and focus on first to try and complete for our first formative. After hearing this, i began to research into the things i was given. I started by creating some mood boards for each of the topics, to help me gather some inspiration. I also wanted to do some written research regarding the landmarks in Nottingham that we would be including since i had a big focus on the environment designs, as well as also researching some things about different sea creatures i could use for reference or inspiration.

Research
I began by making 3 mood boards for each of the different categories of things I had to work on. I made a moodboard for Nottingham based landmarks and recognisable things from the city, One for sea creatures i could use for inspiration when coming up with concepts and also one for the suit repair kits which is slightly smaller.
Below, is my moodboard based on different Notts landmarks and recognisable things from the city and county. I also conducted a bit of research for each landmarks, as well as writing notes for how i think they could be included into our game. This would not only help me when coming up with concepts, but also help the rest of my team to visualise and also possibly generate ideas themselves.
i also made a research doc on each of the different landmarks where I researched them in more detail, and also added ideas for things on how we could incorporate them into our game.

Beginning Concepts
Below, are some of my first concept ideas for different animals within our game. We were each assigned different characters/animals to draw concept designs for and i mostly was given passive creatures that would be used to help build the scenery and ambience within the caves. Based upon my research and moodboards, i created these concepts sheets each containing a few different designs and relayed them back to my team to further develop and give feedback upon.
I stuck with a vibrant and colourful theme since that is the direction we are taking our game in. While our game is a platformer/horror style game, we still wanted to use bright and colourful designs and such throughout our game.
