Whiteboxing Environments
To continue onwards with my 3D work, i decided to try and whitebox a simple environment design, similar to the style we wanted to create within our game.
I decided to model a simple level design inspired by concept artwork created by my groups 2D Lead Sam, using some of the models i had previously created.
Since our group has constantly been sharing and showing each other our work, Sam drew some environments inspired by the plant designs and environment structures done by myself and the other members of my group. Because of this, I was able to reuse the models I worked on the week prior as Sams artwork had used them as a reference too.

Despite our game being a 2D pixel art platformer and not 3D, a method called Whiteboxing can still be used and experimented with. Whiteboxing is used by many different game companies to help block outlevel designs and understand where different assets will go, and plan environments. Usually, these whiteboxed environment's become detailed models but this technique can also be used in other ways. For example in our context, the Whiteboxing level design can be used to be drawn over in 2D as a different way of creating a base sketch. This method is also commonly used and can be really helpful for 2D artists, or even in some variants where a mix of 2D and 3D are used within a game.
An example of level whiteboxing, created by user jakeshmearlof4 on SketchFab.

This is the concept sketches created by Sam, which I based my level whitebox off of. My version is based on the top sketch.
