Arm and Leg Anatomy Studies

This week, I practiced drawing different arms and legs from a selection of different reference images. The refences I used were gathered from the NOW page, as well as some of off Pinterest and site called Line of Action.

I gave myself a limited amount of time to draw from my refences, trying my best to recreate the poses and the anatomy. I used a selection of different poses and angles when drawing these arms and legs, as I wanted to help myself get a better grasp on what the limbs look like from alternate angles.

For these first 3 drawings, I wanted to get a general grasp on arm anatomy, and how they interact with objects or other people. Arms are one the things i find myself struggling to draw correctly most commonly, So i practiced drawing the back view of an arm stretched out, an arm reaching upwards and two arms holding hands.

Then, when I felt like I had warmed up I gathered a few more references from Pinterest and Line of Action. I drew two different variations of someone with their arms crossed, from different angles and also of different builds to try and practice have someone with a more muscular build would compare to someone without in the same pose. This was really helpful to help me understand muscle placement better and how they look within a drawing. I also drew another arm and hand in a more relaxed position.

I then began to practice drawing a few legs. I drew these legs in a variety of different poses, a more natural walking pose, a kicking pose and a fighting stance. I gave myself a limit of 3-5 minutes to draw these legs within to try and help improve my drawing speed and also grasp the anatomy and pose correctly within a short time limit.

I will continue to practice more arm and leg anatomy, as this acts as a great warmup before drawing something to help not only improve my skills on anatomy but also to warm up before completing or starting a big piece. I think that I would like to start practicing drawing different limbs and poses in short amounts of time before i complete full drawings to practice the pose I will be using and get a better understanding.
